When Randy Brecker wrote Some Skunk Funk in the late 70’s he probably didn’t anticipate that the piece would gain cult status some 20 years later. Skunk Funk is widely considered the “nationalanthem” of funk music and has been played in various settings and orchestrations since its early days. This arrangement was written in 2009 for Stavanger Brass Band and the Siddis Brass Gala Concert that same year. Stavanger Brass Band re-visited the piece in 2012 when performing it with sax-soloist Tore Yttredal at the Mai Jazz Festival in Stavanger, May 2012. Both performances conducted by the arranger. The form and structure of the piece is for the player/conductor to decide and the score offers rich possibilities for “open” solo sections, optinal cuts etc.
